Your car title is your legal proof of ownership. You will need it when you want to sell the vehicle, or to register it with the state. If you are purchasing a vehicle, you want to ensure it is not stolen; obtaining that vehicle title protects you from what could be a bad situation. Without the title, you cannot prove you own the vehicle. Cartitles.com simplifies your vehicle title recovery process. Whether a replacement car title, a damaged car title, or a deceased owner title transfer, our expert team can help—saving you time and headaches.
Obtaining a vehicle title begins with knowing your local state or county requirements. Generally, you will need the following information and documents:
In addition to the above-listed forms and information, you will need to pay the associated fees:
You may incur separate fees for ATV/off-road vehicles and RVs. Junk titles are done at no charge. Also, you will need to factor in applicable sales taxes; specific cities and counties may also have additional fees.
Once the vehicle lien has been satisfied—by paying off the loan in full—the lienholder will provide either a signed lien clearance letter or the paper title stating the loan has been paid. The documentation must include the VIN, year of manufacture, make and model.
Once you have this document, you will send it along with the Application for Vehicle Transaction (VSD-190) and the accompanying fee to the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS). The SOS will send a new, clear title.
