First, verify with your lender that the loan has been paid in full. At this point, many lenders will notify the DOR electronically with this information. Once processed, the DOR will then mail you a title reflecting that there are no longer any liens listed. If you have a physical title, either the lienholder will sign that and send it to you, or the lienholder will send you a separate release. You will then need to take that document to your local tag office and apply for a new title.
